Description

We have some talented artists in the Susquehanna Greenway! This limited edition reusable water bottle features the winning artwork of the 2024 Susquehanna Greenway Art Contest, designed by local artist Carrie Bosch.

Her design stood out in the judging process for its creativity, thoughtful description, adherence to SGP’s color palette, and the beautiful way it captured the variety of landscapes, wildlife, and activities that we have in our region.

The Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle with a bamboo lid holds 22 oz. All proceeds go directly back to supporting outdoor recreation projects in our region.

Here is the story behind the work:

Some of my earliest family memories are exploring the outdoors of Central Pennsylvania with my family. On the weekends we would take short hikes around the state parks near us; Ricketts Glen, World’s End, Raymond B. Winter, to name a few. My mom would pack us a lunch and we would go, many times not sure we might end up, but it was always a fun time! As an adult my love for the outdoors has only grown. I love visiting the State Parks and have expanded to exploring our Nation’s National Parks through out the country. I take my two dogs out for hikes at least three times a week and I’m not sure who enjoys themselves more! I have incorporated my love of the arts with my love of nature. I am an art teacher and I try to merge the importance of preserving nature for the future and our art projects to help instill a love of both in the students I teach. Many years ago I started out drawing the National Parks in Pen and Ink, now moving to a collage type artwork where I merge many parks into one cohesive image showcasing what each has to offer. I set out making this artwork with the same process. This design process does distort scale but, it does allow many aspects to be highlighted. My typical process starts by making a list of elements that I want in my work. I then start sketching out the layout, and with this particular worked I merged the hand-drawn sketch with my love of graphic design by importing the drawing into Photoshop. At this point I hand-colored the image to match the provided color palette; a process which I found to enjoy very much! I also drew this with the understanding that it would be used for a sticker/ decal and on a bottle, therefore I wanted something very graphic in nature to create and eye-catching image. Lastly I would like to personally thank you all for the work you do to aid in preserving nature as well as creating interest in the outdoors and inspiring another generation of nature lovers!
