Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and more are popular pastimes of these two communities. Surrounded by rolling green hills and farm fields, they are nestled in a region known as the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Falls Township is located near two notable water features – the North Branch Susquehanna River Water Trail and Buttermilk Creek. It is named after the impressive waterfalls along Buttermilk Creek that empty into the Susquehanna River. The series of waterfalls are listed as an Outstanding Scenic Geological Feature by the Pennsylvania Geological Survey. Falls Township serves as a gateway to the Endless Mountains, which extend to the East, West and North.
Exeter Township also resides right along the North Branch Susquehanna River Water Trail. Like Falls, Exeter is surrounded by beautiful open landscapes that traverse the Susquehanna River Valley. It located just south of Falls and marks the border of the Endless Mountains Region with the more urban areas of Luzerne County.
Buttermilk Falls
Buttermilk Creek flows 6.8 miles from Newtown Township to Falls Township. The stunning greenery surrounding the creek offers an environment of peace and serenity. The Buttermilks Falls section of the creek is listed as an Outstanding Scenic Geological Feature by the Pennsylvania Geological Survey due to the large amounts of water the falls are able to carry each day. The water continues into Beaver Creek, which flows into the Susquehanna River.
