These towns are also some of the few in close proximity to Bucktail State Park Natural Area, Hyner View State Park, and the Lumber Heritage Region. Today the woodlands and waterways of this region provide some of our favorite landscapes for outdoor recreation.

Hyner View State Park

Just 6 miles east of Renovo, Hyner View State Park offers one of the most iconic views of the West Branch Susquehanna River. Glorious in all seasons, the scenic overlook of this park is a must-see. If the weather is right, you may be able to see hang gliders launch from the vista into the valley below. (Photo Credit: Phillip Mapstone)

Bucktail State Park Natural Area

Bucktail State Park Natural Area provides a beautiful 75-mile scenic drive along PA 120 from Emporium, through Renovo, to Lock Haven. It stretches through a narrow valley known as the Bucktail Trail, named after the famous American Civil War regiment of Woodsmen, the Bucktails or Bucktail Rangers.

Lumber Heritage Region

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Pennsylvania’s virgin timber was harvested along the banks of these towns and floated down the Susquehanna. The Lumber Heritage Region is a 15-county region in North West/North Central Pennsylvania that accentuates the importance of the lumber industry for the past, present, and future.
