1st Place Winner: Edie Cox
Category: Wildlife
Location: Karthaus, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “An early fall morning found a bull elk conversing with his calf… The bull appears to be sharing his past experiences to his calf, saying, ‘you don’t know how fortunate you are. When I was your age, I had to undertake an arduous journey over two mountains to reach the Susquehanna River for a refreshing drink. Conversely, your path is a relatively effortless downhill stroll!”

2nd Place Winner: Timothy Coover
Category: Wildlife
Location: Elizabethtown, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “Taking photos of the ice on the creek and I started hearing chattering, Much to my surprise this guy popped out from under the ice and let me take some photos of him.”

3rd Place Winner: Debby Michael
Category: Wildlife
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “When my kids and I are in the mood to see some wildlife, we go to Wildwood Park. It is such an important sanctuary for animals in the Harrisburg area. We especially like looking for frogs. I caught this Bullfrog in the middle of his characteristic “brr-wum” call, a very familiar sound on the towpath trail. I love how you can see the ripples in the water from the vibrations of his vocalization.”
People’s Choice

1st Place Winner: John Reitzel
Category: People’s Choice
Location: Conejohela Flats, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “I was in position to get a photo of the 3 Great White Egrets on the driftwood, when a juvenile Ibis flew into the crash the party.”

2nd Place Winner: Robert Springall
Category: People’s Choice
Location: Lewisburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “I had wanted to get a picture of the old railroad bridge connecting Lewisburg and East Lewisburg at sunrise. On an early trip from State College to Hazleton, I knew I could pass through Lewisburg right before sunrise. I parked at the Street of Shops in Lewisburg, walked through the neighboring park and through the brush to get right on the river to look up at the bridge and then waiting for the right moment where the sun would be shining through the bridge’s superstructure to form the sunburst. Shot with Fujifilm X-T5 camera and Fujinon 18-55mm lens on May 15, 2023.”

3rd Place Winner: Kristen Cantor
Category: People’s Choice
Location: Williamsport, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “Three days after Christmas, three days before New Year’s Eve, just after five in the evening. I went for a run alone but didn’t make it far, as I was arrested by the sight of the rapidly reddening sky over the Susquehanna. I stood for several minutes on the bridge, struck by the sublime. An acquaintance, another runner, passed by me on the bridge. When we turned to greet each other, we realized we were both teary-eyed.”
