1st Place Winner: Tony Ragusea
Category: Landscape
Location: Lewisburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “On this late snowy night the lights from Lewisburg reflected off the low clouds making it seem much brighter than it would otherwise be. I was struck by the muted beauty of the sombre brown tones with the white snow accents. The house across the river creates a mysterious focal point.”
2nd Place Winner: David Walsh
Category: Landscape
Location: Marie Antoinette Overlook
Story Behind the Shot: “On the way home from a long day trip out to Pine Creek Gorge we stopped at the Marie Antoinette Overlook and found this view. Wow! The late day lighting was soft and lighting up the beautiful farms and the river below. This was my first time to this spot and I think this is one of the best landscapes I have taken this year. I like the spot so much I got up early the next morning and drove one hour back to this spot to see if the morning light would make for even a better photo – Nope. This one was the best.”
3rd Place Winner: Rita Kurtz
Category: Landscape
Location: Selinsgrove, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “This is a photo of comet NEOWISE. If you look close you can see the tail of the comet.”
1st Place Winner: John Reitzel
Category: River Towns
Location: Columbia, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “This beautiful mural painted on the side of this historic building greets visitors to Historic Downtown Columbia. One morning the sunrise provided the perfect backdrop for this as well as the Columbia Borough office.”
2nd Place Winner: Michael Yatsko
Category: River Towns
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “I take a lot of Harrisburg sunrise photos but this one blew me away. I could see from my house that it was going to be a good one so I grabbed my gear and headed to the river. A half hour before sunrise the sky was on fire. One of my top 5 Harrisburg sunrises for sure. This is why I get up at 5:00 in the morning!!!”
3rd Place Winner: William Anderson
Category: River Towns
Location: Millersburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “Railroads helped local towns prosper along the Susquehanna river not only providing a necessary means for goods to get there, but also as a major source of transportation for people in the pre-automobile era. Though the train no longer stops in Millersburg, but it still passes the historic Millersburg Station on its way north.”
1st Place Winner: Nick Zell
Category: Susquehanna Adventures
Location: White Cliffs of Conoy
Story Behind the Shot: “While exploring the White Cliffs of Conoy, I came upon a man watching the sunset on his bike. I politely asked permission to take his picture, to which he agreed with a smile.”
2nd Place Winner: John Reitzel
Category: Susquehanna Adventures
Location: Wrightsville, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “A great way to spend a beautiful summer evening, fishing on the Susquehanna river as the sun is setting.”
3rd Place Winner: Matthew Krupp
Category: Susquehanna Adventures
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “This is a photo capture of a young girl, playing an improvised game of riverfront hopscotch at sunset along the Harrisburg River Walk.”
1st Place Winner: Scott Canouse
Category: Wildlife
Location: Briar Creek Lake
Story Behind the Shot: “A snapping turtle rolls over on its back and appears to do the back stroke.”
2nd Place Winner: Scott Canouse
Category: Wildlife
Location: Wetlands Nature Area
Story Behind the Shot: “A pileated woodpecker tosses debris in the air as he hammers a fallen tree looking for bugs.”
3rd Place Winner: James Cole
Category: Wildlife
Location: Athens Township
Story Behind the Shot: “We have a local park within the Susquehanna Greenway where I stumbled upon this female laying her eggs. I took a few photos and then a few videos of her in the egg-laying process, which was neat to witness the first time. This of course is a common snapping turtle. She’s been around for quite some time I believe. This photo of this girl was taken after she had laid her eggs. I didn’t want to disturb her too much until she had finished. After this I watched her mosey back to the pond leaving her eggs buried in the mud behind us.”
Honorable Mention Winner: Ed Boardman
Category: People’s Choice
Location: Towanda, PA
Story Behind the Shot: “The Bradford County Courthouse on Main Street in Towanda, Pa., as snow begins to fall on an early wintery morning.”
Hundreds of the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership’s Facebook friends voted for this honorable mention image to be named People’s Choice and included in the Traveling Gallery.
