The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership (SGP) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $299,800 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to advance outdoor recreation, community connections, and river-based opportunities throughout the Susquehanna Greenway.

The award is part of Governor Josh Shapiro and DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn’s latest round of $81 million in Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) grants, supporting 306 recreation and conservation projects across 60 Pennsylvania counties. The funding will create new recreational opportunities, expand access to outdoor spaces, strengthen communities, and support conservation efforts statewide.

For SGP, the grant provides critical support for strengthening the Susquehanna Greenway as a connected network of trails, river access points, outdoor recreation opportunities, and vibrant river communities. The funding will support SGP’s work to connect people with the Susquehanna River and the places that make the region special.

“We are incredibly grateful for DCNR’s continued investment in the Susquehanna Greenway and in the communities along the river,” said Alana Jajko, Executive Director of the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership. “This funding gives us an important opportunity to look strategically at where SGP is headed, strengthen the Greenway as a regional recreation network, and continue building meaningful connections between people, communities, and the Susquehanna River.”

The DCNR grant will support major areas of SGP’s work, including:

  • Implementing the 2027 Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant Program, providing funding and support for community-led projects that advance outdoor recreation, trails, river access, and other Greenway priorities.
  • Updating SGP’s strategic plan to help guide the organization’s future direction and strengthen its role in advancing outdoor recreation and connectivity throughout the Susquehanna Greenway.
  • Conducting outreach, providing technical assistance, and coordinating special events that connect communities, partners, and residents with outdoor recreation opportunities and resources.
  • Managing the West Branch and Lower North Branch Susquehanna River Water Trails, supporting the continued development, promotion, and stewardship of these nationally recognized water trail systems.

Together, these efforts will help SGP strengthen partnerships across the Greenway, support communities in developing and connecting outdoor recreation opportunities, and make it easier for people to discover and enjoy the Susquehanna River and its surrounding landscapes.

The Susquehanna Greenway is a 500-mile corridor of opportunity stretching along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The Greenway connects communities through paddling, walking, biking, river access, conserved lands, trails, parks, and other outdoor recreation experiences.

SGP works hand-in-hand with local, state, and national partners to complete the Susquehanna Greenway corridor and serve as a trusted resource for outdoor recreation throughout the region. This latest DCNR investment will help SGP build on that work while planning strategically for the Greenway’s next chapter.
