LEWISBURG, PA (September 23, 2024) – The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership (SGP) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the PPL Foundation. These funds will support the 2025 Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo, a community event to be held in Sunbury, PA on August 2, 2025.
Hosted annually at the Shikellamy State Park Marina, a treasured state park located on an island at the confluence of the North and West branches of the Susquehanna River, the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo celebrates all things outdoor recreation—convening industry experts, outdoor professionals, and non-profit partners to share their tools, knowledge, gear, and resources with the recreating public.
In total, 50+ vendors from across the state participate and offer a full slate of workshops, presentations, gear demos, and more—all at no cost to the public.
The Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo exemplifies SGP’s role as a facilitator. SGP’s services and programs serve as a thread that links adventurers to everything they need to explore the outdoors along the Greenway including the area’s outfitters, heritage areas, outdoor clubs, and so much more.
“SGP is so grateful for the support of the PPL Foundation,” explains SGP Executive Director, Leslie Warriner. “This grant will allow us to provide additional educational programming related to conservation and the outdoors right at the event—something that the state park has recognized as a need to be fulfilled in our region.”
Past programs of the event have included Native American storytelling, live wildlife programs, intro to underwater photography talks, lumber history presentations, as well as kayak lessons, intro to fly fishing, disc golf basics, and other activities tailored to both adults and children.
Beyond the Outdoor Expo, SGP works year-round to address gaps in access to outdoor recreation and build pathways of connection along the Susquehanna River.
From collaborating with local and county partners to advance new park, trail, and open space projects, to creating maps and hosting unique events that guide the public on outdoor adventures, SGP works to grow connections along the Susquehanna Greenway and introduce people to the outdoors in meaningful ways.
