Loaner Life Jackets Now Available to Local Boaters
Susquehanna State Park opens new Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Station
Williamsport, PA, September 23, 2019 – The Sea Tow Foundation has announced placement of a new life jacket loaner station thanks to a sponsorship from the Williamsport Rotary Club and a partnership with boating safety nonprofit, the Sea Tow Foundation. The new Life Jacket Loaner Station is located at the boat ramp at Susquehanna State Park.
The station holds life jackets that local boaters may borrow and return, at no charge. Available in sizes ranging from infant to Adult XL, these life jackets help to ensure each boat’s passengers have access to necessary safety equipment.
“We’re excited to partner with the Sea Tow Foundation to make this Life Jacket Loaner Station available to boaters in our area,” said James Haywood, Williamsport Rotary Club president. “Our club sponsored the pavilion at Susquehanna State Park years ago and these new life jackets will help ensure boaters of all ages can stay safe while they’re out enjoying the scenic Susquehanna River.”
Since 2008, the Sea Tow Foundation has distributed over 55,000 life jackets to local businesses and organizations across the country. These stations are placed in locations where boaters will have easy access to the life jackets, such as boat ramps, marinas and parks. Boaters may borrow the life jackets at no cost and are asked to return them when they are finished so that they are available for others to use.
“The opening of this new Life Jacket Loaner Station in Williamsport is a major achievement, and we are grateful to the Williamsport Rotary Club for sponsoring this loaner station at Susquehanna State,” said Gail R. Kulp, the Sea Town Foundation’s executive director and a Montoursville resident. “With the cold-water life jacket wear law beginning on November 1st, these life jackets will undoubtedly save lives this boating season and for years to come.”
The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission requires life jackets to be worn during the cold weather months from November 1st through April 30th while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or while in any canoe or kayak.
