At a Glance

The Kettle Trail offers a day hike traversing forest, mountain, and meadow views. The steep incline up Herndon Mountain is a workout, but the view from the top is worth the effort, looking out over the Susquehanna River. Plan for a steep hike, with plenty of water, snacks, and bug spray. The trail is located within State Game Lands, so be sure to wear orange.

Description

This scenic 6.9-mile out-and-back trail is a moderately challenging hike. The trail features a mix of dirt, gravel, and crushed stone sections with the choice to traverse a service road most of the way or branch off into more wooded sections. Hikers begin their trek through a beautiful meadow, approaching the mountains. As you enter the treeline, the steep incline along the service road will begin. Here you will be surrounded by woodlands and opportunities to spot local wildlife. Carry water and wear appropriate footwear for a safe and enjoyable experience.
