Tunkhannock: River Day (Paddle/ 444 events)

Saturday, July 21, 2018 - 9:00am

The Endless Mountains Heritage Region is proud to host the 444 Club Recognition Paddle at the 2018 Tunkhannock River Day, at Riverside Park in Tunkhannock, PA. The 444 Club consists a group of intrepid individuals who have paddled the entire 444-mile Susquehanna River, which stretches from Cooperstown, New York, to Havre de Grace, Maryland.

On July 21, there are two paddle trips available to everyone: a 13-mile trip from Meshoppen to Tunkhannock (meet at Riverside Park at 9:00 am), and a 5-mile trip from the Howland Preserve on the Vosburg Neck to Tunkhannock (meet at Riverside Park at 10:00 am). A small reception and tour of recent updates at the Howland will be held prior to the paddle from the Howland Preserve.

These paddle trips are open to everyone interested in the 444 Club.  We welcome all paddlers.

Pre-register by calling EMHR at 570-265-1528.

Logistics: If you have your own boat, drop it off at the put-in, either at the Meshoppen Boat Access or at the Howland Preserve. Ask for directions at time of pre-registration. Return with your vehicle to Riverside Park before the meeting time for your paddle (above). You will be shuttled up to the put-in point. A $15 donation for shuttle is appreciated. Kayak rentals are available at Endless Mountain Outfitters, 570-746-9140, and Susquehanna River Kayak and Canoe Rentals, 570-388-6107.

River Day events begin at 1:00 pm and will include live music, environmental activities for children and adults, nature presentations, and a recognition and celebration of the 444 Club at 4:00 pm. River Day has been organized by the Dietrich Theater for the past 12 years. For more information, call 570-996-1500 or visit dietrichtheater.com.
