Susquehanna Pop-Up Paddle: Fall Edition

We had so much fun during our August Susquehanna Pop-Up Paddle that we are planning to hit the river again this Fall. Mark your calendars for October 10th for the next Susquehanna Pop-Up Paddle, a 12-mile excursion from Montgomery to Milton.

It's a great opportunity to explore the Greenway and the West Branch Susquehanna River Water Trail.

When: October 10, 2020, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Where: Montgomery (start)

           Milton State Park (end)

Paddling Distance: 12 miles (easy)

Price: $20 / adult, $15 / children under 13

Rentals: Limited kayaks and canoes are available. Mark your registration to reserve.
$35 / single, $45 / tandem.

WHAT ABOUT WATER LEVELS?

Should low water levels prevent the planned itinerary, we do have a backup plan further upriver within the backflow of a dam, which should allow for deep enough waters. The alternate route would be a roughly 7-8-mile out-and-back paddle from Linden, PA with a picnic lunch at Susquehanna State Park. On this section of the West Branch, there are opportunities to see remnants of local lumber history with the Susquehanna Boom, as well as an opportunity to paddle by a bald eagle nest. More information to follow should this alternative be adopted.

Schedule (tentative)

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Check-in opens at the PFBC Montgomery Access. This will be a time for participants to check-in and receive their appropriate materials. Light morning refreshments, restrooms, and informational tables will be accessible to participants.

Note: In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions and best practices, SGP has adjusted our shuttling procedures. We are unable to move personal boats this year. If you are bringing your own boat(s), please drop them off at the put-in at the PFBC Montgomery Access when you check in. Please also drop off any passengers in your car with your boats in Montgomery. Drivers should then proceed down to Milton State Park. If you are renting boats, drivers should drop off passengers at the PFBC Montgomery Access, check-in, and only the drivers should proceed to Milton. We will then shuttle only the drivers back up to the put-in. This will allow some spacing on the shuttle bus to accommodate COVID-19 precautions.

9:00 AM - 9:15 AM: Shuttle (Drivers only, all others are asked to be dropped off at the launch site)

9:15 AM - 09:30 AM: Opening Remarks

9:30 - 12:30 PM: Launch from Montgomery, enjoying the wildlife and ecology of the West Branch along the way. PA Master Naturalists will be pointing out natural features.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Take-out for lunch in Watsontown. Information tables will be setup, remarks, and group photo.

1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: Continue paddling to Milton State Park.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: With help from our volunteers, participants will get off the water and transition back to their vehicles.

~~~After the sojourn, perhaps you would like to head back to the Susquehanna Greenway River Town of Lewisburg to recap the day with new and old friends over a well-earned libation or dinner at one of numerous restaurants and establishments.
