2021 River Town Cleanup Week

This year, several of our SGP river towns are celebrating Earth Week, April 17-25 with cleanups, plantings, and other activities! SGP is helping to spread the word on these efforts so that volunteers like you can join in on the fun and give back to our communities. We are so excited to help keep our river towns clean and beautiful! See below for the schedule of events and activities.

NOTE: If your town would like to join in on the efforts, please reach out to chron@susquehannagreenway.orgSGP can assist with planning and securing cleanup materials such as bags, gloves, and safety vests. 


Williamsport: Sunday, April 25th 

  • The SGP-led cleanup will take place along the Susquehanna River Walk and Timber Trail on the Williamsport side on Sunday, April 25th, 1-4 PM. Interested volunteers should meet SGP staff at the Water Town Square trail access at 1:00 PM to check-in. Interested groups should reach out to chron@susquehannagreenway.org for details. 

Lewisburg: Saturday, April 10th or April 17th (Rain Date), April 22nd, April 30th

  •  Lewisburg Neighborhoods will be leading several tree plantings and cleanups in Lewisburg. A cleanup of the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail will be held on Saturday, April 10th (Rain Date: April 17). Tree plantings will be held on April 22nd 4-6 PM and April 30th 4-6 PM. Interested volunteers should reach out to Sam at elmstreet@windstream.net.

Bloomsburg: Thursday, April 22nd

Danville: Saturday, April 24th

  • Montour Area Recreation Commission (MARC) will be leading cleanups on Saturday, April 24th, 9 AM - 12 PM at the Montour Preserve, Hess Recreation Area, Hopewell Park, North Branch Canal Trail, Washingtonville Borough, and North Branch Susquehanna River (river levels permitting). Interested volunteers may sign up here.

Lock Haven: Saturday, April 24th



Newberry: Saturday, April 24th

  • The Newberry Community Partnership is leading "covid safe" litter clean up in Newberry on Saturday April 24 from 9:30 AM -12:00 PM. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Volunteers are asked to meet at the West End Christian Community Center (901 Diamond St. / the intersection of West Fourth St. and Diamond St.) Will be canceled for rain. 

Sunbury: Sunday, April 18th (Rain Date: Sunday, April 25th)

  • Led by the Susquehanna River Cleanup Committee of Sunbury's Revitalization, Inc. Meet at Sunbury boat launch near the intersection of 2nd street and Rt.147 in Sunbury. From there groups will disperse into marked territories. Pizza will be served for lunch in a COVID friendly manner. Volunteers will be offered choice of a t-shirt, water bottle, or tote bag as a thank you. Click here to sign up to be a volunteer.
