Many race course records were shattered at the 7th annual Susquehanna Warrior Trail (SWT) 5K this month, including the overall male and female records. 227 runners and 96 walkers followed the course from Shickshinny, PA along the Susquehanna River. See race photos on their Facebook page.
The trail consists of 11 miles of the old Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad and passes through scenic portions of the Susquehanna River corridor. By ultimately linking with two other local trails and 13 public parks, the SWT will create connections from one green space to another along the Susquehanna Greenway.
Recently the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund and Luzerne County each awarded the SWT Council $40,000. This $80,000 provides the matching funds needed to secure a $320,000 new trail construction grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This will provide four more miles of trail and two trail heads!
